Cloverleaf High School and Highland High School will meet in a doubleheader of junior varsity and varsity girls basketball OHSAA Foundation games on Nov. 20 at 5:30 and 7 p.m.

The games are part of the “DARE 2 BE GREAT” week that the state allows for full, dress-rehearsal scrimmage games to help raise money for local charities. The games also help support the OHSAA Foundation that sponsors a free leadership workshop in the fall each year for athletes all over Ohio.

For the second year in a row, the teams will clash to help raise money for CHS Junior Achievement’s Heroes Over Heroin initiative and to continue to bring awareness in Medina County to the heroin problem. So many families in Medina County have had to deal with this epidemic and the problems that surround this deadly addiction.

“I am very proud of the students and their great ideas,” said CHS Junior Achievement Advisor Jim Humiston. “This student-driven project is in its third year and has been a very rewarding experience for all of us.”

The student leaders of Heroes Over Heroin will speak at halftime of the varsity game about their mission. Stefanie Robinson, the executive director of the newly founded Hope Recovery Community, will also speak.

Admission to the game is $5. There will be various basket raffles, plus a 50/50 drawing, available throughout the evening to help raise money.

The girls players and coaches from the two schools combined last year to raise more than $2,000 and they hope to lend a helping hand again.

“Every little bit helps,” Cloverleaf Head Coach John Carmigiano said. “We hope people will come up and enjoy the basketball games, help us raise a little money for this important charity that was started by students at Cloverleaf High School, and listen to their message of giving and support.”
